Sporting legend visits York St John University

Published: 26 February 2013

Students at York St John University welcomed a sporting legend to their campus when Steve Cram visited York as part of his role as an ambassador for Yorkshire Bank.

Steve met with students and staff from York St John Business School and the University’s faculty of Health and Life Science to discuss How Sport Relates to Business and Olympic Reaction: Success of Sport.

During the 1980s, Steve was one of the world’s dominant middle distance runners, setting world records in the 1,500 metres and the mile, as well as being the first man to run 1,500 metres under three minutes and 30 seconds.

Jackie Mathers, Dean of York St John Business School, said: “As the BBC’s chief athletics commentator, Steve had a real insight into the 2012 Olympics and we are thrilled that he has found time to share his experiences and knowledge with us. Meeting Steve really inspired the students and encouraged them to think more about the impact of the Olympics, especially how it relates to business. Being able to share their thoughts and ideas with Steve was a fantastic opportunity they all enjoyed.”
